Experience

I have 1.5 years of tutoring experience with Varsity Tutors and additional tutoring experience through Dartmouth peer tutoring. I've helped students with all sections of the (P)SAT, but also algebra, pre-algebra, French, and AP US History. I scored a 1560 on the new (1600) SAT, and also scored a 5 on the AP exams in BC Calculus, English Literature & Composition, English Language & Composition, US History, European History, Macroeconomics, and French. I also scored an 800 on the SAT Math Level II exam. At Longmeadow High School, I received the departmental awards in Literature, French, and History, as well as two gold medals on the National French Exam. At Dartmouth, some of the tutoring-relevant courses I've taken have been Linear Algebra, French Literature, and Cognitive Science. I'm also experienced with CS and coding. Short biography: Hello! I'm Alex, a current Dartmouth undergrad and Cognitive Science B.A. candidate with 1.5 years of tutoring experience through Varsity Tutors. While at VT, I've helped many students of different ages, backgrounds, and skill levels achieve their goals on standardized tests and academic subject material. My main expertise is in preparing students for all sections of the (P)SAT, but I've also tutored in pre-algebra, algebra, AP US History, and French. However, I've excelled in many subjects throughout high school and college, so if you're unsure if I have the right expertise for your student, just ask! I love helping students tackle difficult subjects, refine their problem-solving skills, and achieve mastery on their topic(s) of interest. My tutoring style revolves around using intuitive, self-exploratory methods in which the student drives the methods and goals of the learning, and I simply provide them with options and guidance. When tutoring in any subject, I always do the problems or exercises right alongside the student—there'll be no reading off answer sheets in my sessions! I pride myself on instilling comfort and confidence in my students, regardless of what their goals are and what we're working on.
